BOMB THREATS AND SUSPICIOUS PACKAGES TRAINING

Bomb threats and suspicious packages are a reality for many organizations, including schools, high-rises, factories, and others. It is becoming more and more important that your staff understand what information to gather and how to respond to these threats: whether hoaxes or legitimately dangerous.

Bomb threats and suspicious packages are a reality for many organizations, including schools, high-rise buildings, factories, and others. Motivations to threaten occupants include revenge, mischief, distraction, and more. These incidents can cause panic in staff and other occupants and may be very dangerous. It is imperative that staff understand what information to gather and how to respond to these threats: whether hoaxes or legitimately dangerous.

General Course Description

Bomb Threat and Suspicious Package Training is a combination of lecture-style multimedia presentation, review of a customized bomb threat checklist, and a simulated bomb treat exercise. Training generally emphases three core objectives:

  • Understanding the nature of bomb threats and suspicious packages. Including motivation, frequency of hoaxes, and local fire/policy response procedures
  • Practice how to keep a caller calm and how to fill out a bomb threat checklist
  • How to respond to suspicious package

As with all our training, material is customized to the response procedures of the building.

Bomb Threat Checklist Exercise

All facilities should have a bomb-threat checklist available to record details of a bomb threat call. Our training includes a group exercise where all participants listen to pre-recorded, staged, bomb threat calls. Each person fills out a bomb threat checklist as they listen to the call. As a group, we discuss what the participants noticed and get practice listening for the right details.
