This is a combination of lecture-style multimedia presentation, with group discussion and bomb-threat checklist exercise. Course includes an emphasis on understanding the nature of bomb threats and suspicious packages. This includes motivation, frequency of hoaxes, local fire/policy respones procedures, etc. The material is customized to the response procedures of the building.
Bomb threats and suspicious packages are a reality for many organizations, including schools, high-rises, factories, and others. Motivations to threaten occupants include revenge, mischief, distraction, and more. These incidents can cause panic in staff and other occupants and may be very dangerous. It is imperative that staff understand what information to gather and how to respond to these threats: whether hoaxes or legitimately dangerous.
All facilities should have a bomb-threat checklist available to record details of a bomb threat call. Thankfully, staff rarely have an opportunity to use these forms. Unfortunately, this also means they are unprepared when a bomb threat call is received.
Our training includes a group exercise where all participant listen to pre-recorded, staged, bomb threat calls. Each person fills out a bomb threat checklist as they listen to the call. As a group, we discuss what the partipants noticed and get practice listening for the right details.
